Going abroad? Maybe there is a 'Micro-Event' that you can visit!

1999 Bristol Microcar Club's Bath Rally

A great new venue for this well established rally!!!

(my personal view, with photos by 'Moneybags')

Updated 23rd December 1999.

I finally started doing a write-up with photos on the BMC's excellent efforts at this new venue in the next week or two so watch this space.

Alan Carrington's pretty little Autobianchi adds to the impressive variety at the Bath Rally
Dave Nancekievill's immaculate Trojan 200 won a very well deserved 'best in class' and 'best on the day'
The immaculately clean engine bay on Janet Clark's 'Kick-start' Mk. 'D' Bond
An unusual beautifully restored Lambretta scooter. In the background is a nice Zundapp.
'Moneybags' poses in this lovely 4-wheel Isetta (4-wheelers are uncommon in the U.K.)
Nice standard Isetta 300 with 'Paul the roof's' Trojan 200 in the background

The Bath Rally, is a well established rally in it's 14th year. For a long time it was situated in Bath's Royal Victoria Park, but there were no camping facilities, the nearest camping was on the outskirts of Bath (near the new site) but we were limited to using the campsite bar, it then moved to the splendid setting of Dyrham Park, but here, we found that we were terribly exposed to the elements. Last year, this came home with a bump when strong winds and torrential rain damaged tents and my caravan and brought much fewer people out.
So it was that we changed venues again. Tony Godfrey suggested the 'Stothert and Pitt Rugby Ground' at Salford near Bath. It was an excellent choice, Nice and flat, easy to get to, with a bar, toilets and hot showers and even a good hot breakfast in the the clubhouse.
I arrived straight from the wonderful Nordkapp Rally, and Ian Frankland took his newly aquired BMW 700 back to Wales and returned with Lindsay in his Smart.
For 'Moneybags' and I, it was a perfect location as it is very close to the 'Sustrans' Bath-Bristol cycletrack, which follows an old railway line, canals etc., for about 15 miles. We took full advantage of this, and cycled here, there and everywhere on my 'Birdy' folding bike and Martin's beautifully restored 'Moulton' seperable bike.
Wynford Jones and Tony Godfrey arranged a nice little run-out, visiting Avoncliff and then on to some monsterously steep hills to get to the canal at Limpley Stoke, where we went out on an electric boat which employed a milk-float motor. It was beautiful to glide silently along through such gorgeous countryside and, I think, provided a diversion very much in keeping with the microcar ideal!
