Messerschmitt Enthusiasts Club get Microcar fans all steamed up!!!

(my personal view, with photos by 'Moneybags')

Updated 23rd December 1999

I am finally doing a write-up with photos on the MEC's excellent efforts at this beautiful Steam Railway in the next week or two so watch this space

Click on the thumbnail above to see a panaramic shot of Toddington station (complete with steam train) and the '99 National site. It was made from four photos, stitched together, so make allowances for the fuzzy joints!

Classic Microcars

Included in this line-up is the unusual 'Cotton' commercial trike (red), 'Morgan' look-alikes 'Lomax', 'Triking' and 'DRK' and 'Ariel 3' leaning trike,
Isetta line-up, including the lovely red pick-up in the foreground
Proud 'Bond' parent poses proudly with it's new-born baby!
A 'Peel' sweats in the hot Autumn sun.
The 'Peel' gets a piggy-back home!
Reg Imray's very flashy customised Kr200. Reg has an amazing motor museum in Devon.
Alan Hitchcock's 'Honda Z'
A very clean and pretty 'Fiat 500' shows off it's engingine bay.
'Honda V4' engined 'Triking' (or is it a 'JZR'?)
'Chop's Flying Circus' ( the bell-tent acted as a sun-shade to keep the kids out of the sun while they were playing. Jac still managed to get sunstroke!!!)

Modern Microcars

Before last year's National I contacted every modern microcar manufacturer (including electric and human-powered. All said "Sorry, not this year, maybe next year" This year it emerged that all were in discussions with potential agents last year. They were a welcome addition to the classic micros, here are some of them. The 'Aixam' test drives, that 'Moneybags' and I organised for everyone, were very popular.
'Aixam' of France have started marketing these cute little microcars in Britain. Powered by a 500c.c. twin cylinder diesel.
'Smarts' were plentiful, these two arrived after finding details of the National on this website and ringing me to ask if it would be frowned upon if they turned up! Apart from entries like these the 'Smart' stand did a roaring trade.
'Reliant' are now acting as agents for 'Ligier' and 'Microcar' (two French manufacturers of microcars and 'Voitures sans Permis')
